Nobody likes to spend long periods of time on a train, least of all children. Children need something that will keep them occupied for the ride. So why not bring along a few board games; they will not only keep your child amused, but perhaps you too.
Obviously it’s not a good idea to bring along board games containing lots of tiny items, which will most probably end up rolling around on the floor of the train. So you should make your choice wisely. There are a range of online sites which sell board games, aimed at travelling.
Amazon and Toys ‘R Us, are just a few sites which offer travel board games. This site turned out quite useful: http://www.best-children-games.com/travel-board-game s.html
Magnetic
Okay so if you cannot possibly find a suitable game that doesn’t have tiny bits, why not opt for a magnetic game? It does everything that a normal board game does, with the added extra of not having falling pieces. It makes perfect sense and is the perfect game for travelling.
Connect 4
Well okay this one does contain bits and is not magnetic, but it is quite a stable game – it stay sturdy and upright, the pieces are quite large and so if dropped can easily be spotted. The game can make a bit of mess once the bottom comes off, at the end of the game, but if you can handle a little mess then this game might be a good idea.
Guess who
An entertaining game, that should keep children busy for quite a while. The game does have bits, but they stay within the game for all the time playing and so it quite a safe option. The travel game is adapted into a compact size, for easy storage.
Snakes and Ladders
An old favourite for many out there, this simple game is one that even younger children can enjoy. There is a magnetic travel version out there, so this game has little faults to be found.
Monopoly
A travel version of Monopoly is on the market, although much smaller, it may be difficult to enjoy. It may appeal to some of you out there.
There are many more games out there that can be used be children on trains, many adapted for the purpose of travelling itself. All you have to do is make a few searches and decide which you and your child will most enjoy. There is a vast number to choose from.
